Hosting and Website Analytics
United Domains hosts this website using webspace provided by IONOS. When you request a page, the web server creates access logs that may include your IP address, the requested page, the time of access, the referring website, and browser information. These data are processed to deliver the website and to maintain its security and reliability. Separately, a daily server-side process retrieves the access logs and imports eligible human page views, if any, into a privately operated Matomo installation. This can show which pages and articles are visited, where visits originate and, approximately, which countries they come from.
Before import, the process removes URL query parameters, reduces referrers to the referring website, limits browser information to browser family and major version, and shortens IP addresses (two bytes for IPv4; /48 for IPv6). Matomo uses the shortened address to estimate the country. The website does not load an analytics script or set analytics cookies; this analysis does not place or read analytics identifiers on your device (section 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021, TKG 2021).
The legal basis for website operation and this limited, server-side usage analysis is my legitimate interest in running a secure website and understanding its aggregate use (Article 6(1)(f) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). United Domains and its webspace provider process hosting data. According to United Domains, IONOS stores webspace access data, including IP addresses in anonymised form, for eight weeks for security and stability. The original server logs remain separate from the minimised Matomo data. The retention policy is to retain individual visit records for up to 90 days and aggregate reports for up to seven years. These disclosures are provided under Article 13 GDPR.
Email Enquiries
If you email office@gkoenig.com or admin@gkoenig.com, I process your email address, message and associated email metadata to respond to your enquiry and manage the correspondence. For general enquiries, this is based on my legitimate interest in communicating with people who contact me (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Where you enquire about entering into a contract, processing may instead be necessary to take steps at your request before entering into one (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Where I must retain business records under tax or accounting law, the legal basis for that retention is a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR).
My email is handled through Proton Mail in Switzerland. I am the only person with access to these mailboxes; Proton processes email as the service provider. I delete general enquiries twelve months after our last exchange. Business correspondence that forms part of records subject to a statutory seven-year retention requirement is kept for seven years from the end of the relevant calendar year, or longer if required by law or pending proceedings. Other correspondence may be kept longer only where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Your Rights
You may request access to your personal data, correction, erasure or restriction of processing, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests (Articles 15–18 and 21 GDPR). Send requests to admin@gkoenig.com; Gregor Koenig is your contact person. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, including the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Article 77 GDPR).
